Dos2Unix conversion with MAC support

One of the major issues with people uploading text files to web-based services is that you never now the exact line endings in the file.  There is Dos, UNIX and MAC based.  dos2unix converts dos to linux line endings, but fails for mac. 

Whenever I need to make sure the correct unix line endings are present, I include the code below in my perl scripts.  

# CHECK FILE TYPE FOR LINE ENDINGS AND CONVERT
$line = `head -n 1 $infile`;
if( $line =~ m/\r\n$/ ) { 
	print "Detected DOS file format: converting to UNIX\n"; 
	`dos2unix $infile`;
} 
elsif( $line =~ m/\n\r$/ ) {

	`dos2unix $infile`;

elsif( $line =~ m/\r$/ ) { 
	print "Detected MAC file format: converting to UNIX\n";

        	$_ =~ s/\r/\n/gi ;     # replace returns with newlines
        	print OUT $_ ;
	}
